Overview

Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical/electrical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic/hydraulic systems, conveyor systems, and production machines and equipment by performing the following duties.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. .

Trains other technicians in the operation and maintenance of equipment.

Is well versed in company and plant safety policies and procedures. Understands the general LOCKOUT/TAGOUT policies and the specific LOCKOUT/TAGOUT procedures for each piece of equipment in his/her area of responsibility. Follows all safety policies and procedures.

Knows and follows all company, plant, and departmental policies and procedures.

Observes mechanical/electrical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.

Knowledge and ability to record all required data accurately and completely, electronic or otherwise.

Knowledge of all QS-9000 and ISO- 14001 key elements.

Knowledge and ability to troubleshoot machines and equipment using mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics.

Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.

Repairs or replaces defective parts.

Examines and inspects defective parts to determine root cause of failure.

Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.

Lubricates and cleans parts.

Starts devices to test their performance.

Performs accurate and quality repairs in a safe, skillful, and timely manner.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Employee should poses an electrical background and the ability to learn new equipment. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. An AAS Degree or equivalent is helpful but is not required for this position.

LANGUAGE SKILLS Good communication skills are a must for this position. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY Employee must poses the ability to reason through problems and situations in the general course of troubleshooting and repairing equipment. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished iii written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Lifting of up to 50 pounds may be required up to 2/3 of the time. Lifting up to 100 pounds may be required less than 1/3 of the time.

Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus) is required.
